Cardiology Associates, a 26 physician group in Mobile and Baldwin counties, is celebrating National Heart Month throughout February by participating in a number of community events. Other events may be added, so please check www.cardassoc.com for the most up-to-date information.
♥On Friday, February 1, Cindy Cazalas, Marketing and Public Relations with Cardiology Associates, will be on WKRG’s “Mark Your Calendar” to discuss heart month events.
♥Friday, February 1 is National Wear Red Day. All citizens are encouraged to wear red – a red dress, purse, tie, etc. – to promote awareness of women and heart disease. Visit www.goredforwomen.org for more information.
♥The annual Alabama Lifestyles Expo will be held at Caribe Resort in Orange Beach on Thursday, February 7 from 8 to 2 p.m. Cardiology Associates will have an informational display booth with educational materials. A nurse will be available to conduct free blood pressure checks. This event is free and open to the public.
♥North Baldwin Infirmary in Bay Minette will host a Women’s Health Fair on February 7 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. The fair will include talks, health screenings, and exhibitors. Cardiology Associates will have an informational booth, and a nurse will be on hand to check blood pressure. The event will be held in the Wellness Center at North Baldwin Infirmary.
♥Dr. David Trice with Cardiology Associates will speak at 9:15 a.m. on “Women and Heart Disease” as a part of the Women’s Health Fair. His talk is free, and will be held in the Wellness Center at North Baldwin Infirmary.
. ♥Lynn Barnes, Registered Dietician with Cardiology Associates, will appear on the 9 a.m. show of WKRG to discuss heart healthy cooking. She will prepare a heart healthy “Spinach Frittata with Creole Sauce.” That recipe and others can be found at www.cardassoc.com
♥Dr. Karl Hakmiller has been invited by South Baldwin Regional Medical Center to speak to seniors and snowbirds at the Gulf Shores Senior Center on Monday, February 11 at 10 a.m. His topic will be “A Heart Doc’s Southern Fried Guide to Your Heart.” His talk is free and open to the public. The Gulf Shores Senior Center is located at 300 E 16th Avenue. Call 968-1434.
♥Heart and Soles, a walking group sponsored by Cardiology Associates, Colonial Mall Bel Air, and Via! Solutions, will meet at 7:30 a.m. on Tuesday, February 12th. Dr. Mike Monson will be the guest speaker, and breakfast is provided by Atria. The Heart & Soles group meets in Via! Solutions, which is located in the Target wing of Bel Air Mall. Membership in the walking club is free. Call 476-7955.
♥Dr. Ralph Buckley has been asked by South Baldwin Regional Medical Center to speak to the members of Senior Circle on Tuesday, February 12. Dr. Buckley will speak on “Your Heart’s Desire.” The talk will be a Valentine’s pot luck for Senior Circle members, and will be held at 12 noon at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Foley. Call 949-3882.
♥Dr. Buckley will again speak on “Your Heart’s Desire” to the Seniors Best group of Thomas Hospital. They will meet at the Nix Center in Fairhope on Wednesday, February 13, at 10 a.m.

♥Springhill Medical Center will hold its annual “Love Your Heart” health fair on Friday, February 15. Free health information, blood pressure checks, body fat assessments, and cholesterol checks will be offered, as well as refreshments and a tour of Springhill Athletic Club. Cardiology Associates will have an educational display booth. The event is from 8 a.m. to noon in the Heart Center. Call 460-5207
♥Also on February 15, Lynn Barnes, Registered Dietitian from Cardiology Associates will be on WKRG-TV’s 9 a.m. news show to discuss heart healthy eating. She will prepare a recipe for people concerned about their cholesterol.
