Cardiology Associates adds two cardiologists to their Baldwin County team.

The physicians of Cardiology Associates are pleased to announce that two cardiology specialists are joining the staff in Baldwin County. James A. Storey, M.D., F.A.C.C. is relocating from Mobile for the practice of Cardiac Electrophysiology. J. McLean Trotter, M.D., is joining the group for the practice of Clinical, Invasive and Interventional Cardiology and Peripheral Vascular Intervention.

Dr. Jim Storey, who joined Cardiology Associates in 2006, is the only board certified electrophysiologist in Baldwin County. While in Mobile, he worked with colleagues Stephanie Grosz, M.D. and Scott Kirby, M.D., occasionally seeing patients in Cardiology Associates’ Fairhope office. Eventually, as Baldwin County’s need for electrophysiology services grew, he spent more time on the Eastern Shore and less in Mobile. In September 2007, Thomas Hospital completed a state-of-the-art upgrade to its electrophysiology lab, allowing Dr. Storey to do procedures in Baldwin County that were previously only available in Mobile.

As an electrophysiologist, a subspecialty of cardiology, Dr. Storey deals with the electrical system of the heart, diagnosing and treating abnormal heart rhythms. In addition to seeing patients in the office and implanting devices such as pacemakers and defibrillators, Dr. Storey also performs other procedures such as radio-frequency catheter ablations to alleviate abnormal heart rhythms.

Dr. Storey is from New York City. He attended Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons in New York, New York. His internship was with the National Naval Medical Center in Bethesda, Maryland, and then he headed west to San Antonio, Texas for his residency at Wilford Hall Medical Center. He completed his cardiology fellowship at the Naval Medical Center in San Diego, California, and his electrophysiology fellowship at the University of California San Diego Medical Center. Dr. Storey is board certified in internal medicine, cardiovascular disease, and electrophysiology.

Dr. Storey and his wife Ana have 2 daughters; 5 year old Samantha and 4 year old Lindsay. He enjoys time with his family as well as golf and tennis.

Dr. McLean Trotter is originally from the Delta region of Mississippi. After growing up in Greenwood, he graduated Cum Laude from the University of Mississippi in Oxford. He then received his medical degree from the University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson, where he also completed his residency and cardiology fellowship. From July 2003 to June 2004, he served as Chief Resident. Dr. Trotter is board certified in internal medicine and cardiovascular disease.

Both Dr. Trotter and his wife Lisa have longtime family ties to the area. Lisa says, “When we got married ten years ago, people laughed because we always told them we were going to live in Baldwin County.” Now, the Trotters say they are “living the dream that we talked about for ten years.” They are looking forward to living here fulltime and raising their children, 6 year old Patten and 4 year old Mary McLean, in Baldwin County.

The addition of Dr. Trotter and the relocation of Dr. Storey bring the number of Baldwin County cardiologists in the group to eight. “The number one thing that drew me to the area was the quality of Cardiology Associates – its physicians and staff,” says Trotter. “While not a giant metropolitan area, the healthcare is exactly comparable to that which is offered in much larger cities. People who live on this side of Mobile Bay can stay on this side of the bay and receive the same cardiovascular services that they previously had to travel to Mobile, Pensacola or beyond to receive. Everything that you can find in a larger city can be found right here, including award winning, state-of-the-art hospitals and first-rate physicians.” Brian Dearing, M.D. agrees. “Baldwin County offers the same healthcare amenities as any other large metropolitan area, while retaining its community charm,” says Dearing. “Adding Drs. Storey and Trotter is a great addition to our Baldwin County group.” The other Baldwin County cardiologists in the group are Drs. Frank Bunch, David Trice, Jay Stinebaugh, Karl Hakmiller, and Ralph Buckley.

Drs. Storey and Trotter will assume their fulltime positions in Baldwin County on July 1, 2008. Call Cardiology Associates at 990-9500 or 943-4100 for more information or to make an appointment.
