GE LightSpeed Scanner

The LightSpeed VCT Series groundbreaking technology opens the door to new procedures while improving the imaging of existing ones. Improved resolution, reduced acquisitions per study*, shorter patient-breath-holds along with the platform's power to routinely support faster coverage with submillimeter resolution, allow more robust and repeatable studies. This is critical in emerging procedures such as Coronary Angiographic studies.

The LightSpeed VCT is GE’s revolutionary 64-Slice Volume Computed Tomography (VCT) scanner. This breakthrough technology is used in Cardiology Associates’ office for predicting the development of heart and vascular disease as well as diagnosing disease, with unprecedented accuracy, in the coronary or peripheral vessels and determining treatment for disease that is found.

The LightSpeed VCT is the world’s first volume CT system. It is able to non-invasively capture images of the human heart in fewer than five heartbeats – something no other CT system can offer - helping to ensure the most accurate representation ever viewed of the heart and the heart’s arteries.

In a single rotation, the LightSpeed VCT system creates 64 images of the heart, each credit card-thin, totaling 40 millimeters of anatomical coverage. These images are combined to form a three-dimensional view of the patient’s anatomy for the physician to analyze.

The images created during CT Angiography can clearly reveal the presence of blockages, as well as how susceptible a plaque is to causing a possible heart attack or stroke. Read More>>

The images and the score created during Cardiac Calcium Scoring show a direct correlation to likelihood of a future cardiac event, such as heart attack or stroke. Read More>>
